Thesmophoria - a ritual gathering of transformation
This is a gathering, an experience, and an initiation. A two-hour ritual rooted in one of the oldest women's ceremonies on earth.
The ancient Greeks called it Thesmophoria, the festival of the Goddess Demeter. For three days women gathered, without men. They fasted and prayed, and then they grieved. They gave voice to everything that felt lost, taken, or broken.
And then, in an act of sacred medicine nearly forgotten in our modern world, they playfully mocked each other's fears. They made each other laugh.
They broke the spell of the famine through irreverence, humor, and the wild relief of being truly seen and held in safety with their fellow sisters.
Persephone, Demeter's daughter, rose from the Underworld. The harvest was restored, and new life was given to the barren earth.
The women reclaimed their wholeness and went home changed.
You don't have to know the words or the story
My first encounter with Thesmophoria happened when I went through my own initiation last year on the summer solstice (more about my story below).
You don't have to be a historian, a priestess, or a mythology scholar to join. Even if you've never heard the story of Demeter, the energy is Universal.
During our time together, you'll be introduced to the concepts and see how connecting to this ancient practice benefits us today.
As women, we often don't recognize or value all we're truly holding.
When we create the space for what wants to be seen, and give ourselves the permission to open and play, release and process, in a supportive community - true magic happens. For ourselves, our loved ones, our community, and our world.
My experience
Last year, I went through my own Thesmophoria initiation with a long-time teacher and mentor, Akara Sophia.
I was in a place where things had shifted. I was re-awakening, connecting to the sweetness of life, and holding a strange balance of fully trusting, while old fears came up to make me quietly panic. Was I really on the right path? What if I failed? Was I doing enough personally, professional, and as an activist for all that I care about?
Being held in sacred space with other women, as we laughed and joked together, broke me open to a new depth. "Oh, like you've never failed before? Can you really not start over if the worst happens? And aren't you doing the work right now, in this group of women, gathered in our full force?" It transformed the low level anxiety into fun and play, which connected us all back to our power.
I believe the more women who stand in the depth of our Soul and our deepest knowing, the less space there is for predators and greed to rule our world.

With sisterhood. With laughter. With the sacred mockery that reminds us how absurd the fear actually is. And how much has been waiting to grow the moment we release our grip, and allow life to unfold.
When we call out our current confines, we can rise into our greatest power.
What we'll move through together
The Light: Your Soul's original frequency
A guided meditative activation to reconnect to your core. Not performing, not waiting. Not feeling like you're too much or not enough. Just your true essence.
The Dark: Welcoming the wisdom and transmuting the ridiculous
We name what's in the way. We feel it with genuine compassion - not spiritual bypassing. And then, in the spirit of Thesmophoria, we find the absurdity of what's holding us hostage. We laugh it into submission.
If you've seen/read Harry Potter, this is the "riddikulus" charm. When the Bogart creature embodies their deepest fears, "riddikulus" transforms it through humor, taking away its ability to terrorize or paralyze.
The Gold: Emergence
A live group Akashic reading and emergence ritual. This is where Persephone rises, as something you feel in your body. You'll leave grounded in your BE-ing, and as a woman who trusts her actions.
The Witness: Reclamation
We close by turning our powerful focus outward. As many versions of the myth go, Demeter's daughter Persephone was taken. And so are children, right now, in our city and our world.
During this experience, you will have the opportunity to share and be witnessed, or to participate however feels best to you in the moment.
